and wondered how it could be at the conclusion of an 18-month feasability study by so many universities.
Anybody who's studied architecture, mechanics or aviation, would immediately conclude that the design could become enormously stronger and be built considerably lighter
if there was a slim (flat?) steel cable connecting the points where the two wind blades are fixed to the arms.
The required strength at the base would be reduced enormously.
I know they want weight at the bottom, but replacing strong contruction steel by concrete would give much cheaper weight. Nevertheless the design looks hot !
Now a local affair: I've worked in the current building, designed by Rem Koolhaas and recently had to do with companies that are housed in it in more than 1 way, so am nicely surprised to see this redesign of the Spui concert and dance theater by ZAHA Hadid:

This falls great Dutch cinema mashup of little-red-riding-hood and Cinderella (assepoester), a movie adaptation of the 2007 RO-theater hit with an added sprinkling of John Water's hairspray, Visconti's Ludwig, Bjorn and Benny's Mamamia, added a pinch of €urosong and Bernstein's West Side Story,
largely carried by Arjen Ederveen and film maker Pieter Kramer (we're back in a new version of the retirement home from Ja zuster nee zuster) takes the future of our royals to a great new perspective:
They all do not get to marry the ones you expect from the fairytales, but still they live happy ever after! Great that kids going to see it with their mums will just think: "oh, that's how homos do it", after the humerous crusing scenes in the many enchanted forests of this movie. Why don't our future royals build a summer retreat called Neu Schwanz Stein on our heighest hill (Pietersberg), or in the back baa(r)n of Soestlijk?
Also made me wonder why the designers of the office towers of the Zuidas, I passed on the way home were of such pathetic AMRO-bank quality. Why did none of these "architects" go to De taarten van Abel or to Toneelschuur designer Joost Swarte for inspiration. (well at least one looked at Cinderella's glass slipper)

25-07-2010 summer worship: zal ik jou s effe lekker alle Hoeken van Holland laten zien ? cruising, just 5 minits cycling from my home: not that I'm still hyper active, cruising around my home turf (prefer indoors nowadays, easier selection of prefered prey, not too hot/cold/wet, no sunburn, safer, drinks and lube at hand, less risk of lyme disease, less risk of as yet undetermined deseases we're supposed to get due to blue algae, when the water gets too hot; in my humble opinion we're much more at risk of geese faeces, that were always under control in the past coz farmers shot excess geese, now due to environmental hysteria [party of the animals, growing in NL parliament like an epidemic] that is illegal and while there is no human shit in our open water anymore after summer storms, thanx to the millions we spent on a nationwide double sewage system we can now swallow goose shit in our ponds)
