30-01-2008 Societé Generale scandal turns Jerome into hero,
Incredible story of an even more incredible amount of money

Questions have been raised over the effects on the markets of the rogue trader Jerome Kerviel who lost € 4.9bn euros ($7.1bn; £3.7bn) at Societé Generale. Analysts are trying to assess whether the trader's actions contributed to the stock market turmoil and the Fed decision to cut interest rates.
Supervisors and managers had the guts to declare they did nothing wrong. Nothing wrong? When over 7 billion dollars are lost and a tenfold amount was gambled? Is everybody going insane or is it just me, wrong as always: I would surely fall for this testosterone filled, anti-fraud whizkid-bankemployee: Never mind those $ 7 bn as long as you fuck like you do! Oh, seed me with that cum, gimme more, more more . . . They also say that the losses have left the bank vulnerable to a takeover bid. Right, take me over, over and over!
Hot Angry Young Man Did our rogue trader cause a market meltdown?
French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said on Friday that the French government was notified about the fraud on Wednesday, though the bank had uncovered it several days earlier. "Maybe the government should have been told earlier," he said. French President Nicolas Sarkozy called the events at Generale a "large-scale internal fraud", but added that the losses "do not affect the solidity and reliability of the French system".

Societé Generale chairman Daniel Bouton said the fraud was a "one-off" and denied it was a trading or risk-management fault. The bank has filed a legal complaint against the trader accused of defrauding the bank.
Uh? we are one of the most influent banks in Europe, we want to play a global role in finance, but sorry, we could not check what a 31 years old employee was doing with your money. Do not worry, everything is fine and internal procedures will be reviewed. The bank is ok, just a rogue trader that was very expert and knowledgeable of the bank's mechanisms. We'll take care.
Why don't the French reinstate the guilotine or public shaming for bank chairmen? Would find that much more acceptable then Iranian practices.

29-01-2008 Here we go again
The Belgians have already started with the selection of their entry for the Eurovision songcontest of 2008. A complete Idols setup: 4 weeks of prerounds to select the song for Belgrade. I just happened to view the 1st one, and if it goes on like this, they will win for sure: what a quality! Both musically as visually. I could not choose, neither could the jury, so the voters choose. The vote went to the song by Kathy Satyn! She's not the best singer, but she's got superhot dancers, the song has oriental undertones and has the classic eurovision style. I'd never go for a song which sounds like a Eurosong. I'd have chosen Femme Fatale with her 3 hot men on a leash; WOW! This is going to be tough: Brahim and the rock song by the Raeven twins were also VERY good!

Marija Šerifovic from Serbia. It was a good song!
Remember last year? First dyke èver to win; click photo for the songclip. More girl power then the Spice Cunts could ever muster. This song also shows there is hope for the €-song yet. For the first time since televoting was introduced and Europe was expanded with another 10 countries a song won without national folklore or ridiculous acts, just on the merit of the power song. A really good sign from a country that was so torn apart by nationalism a decade earlier (still is, until they deliver that butcher general Ratko Mladic to the UN court) comment?

Been to Rotterdam this sunday. it was a test drive to try out the usb stick audioplayer that works through the FM radio and the lighter plug. It operated just fine, I might add, and with a 4 gig stick, holds enough music to drive up and down to Vladiwostoc. We used the trip as an excuse to

The old buildings designed by good old Mr Bakema, who tought me architecture back in the seventies, have all been renovated, and the place looks quite different now:

The interior is as you'd expect of a well funded exhib space in a restored building. I'm very happy to see the good old scaffolding tubes all around the ceiling to flexibly support exhibs and equipment. Also the sound absorbing on the ceilings looks pretty hot! The place will surely be a source of graphics for this blog for years to come. There was an exhibition on of Italian photographers that made you feel you were in a Visconti, Pasaolini or Fellini film.

I just had to take a shot at rephotographing these sulpher miners. It's not as sharp as the original, but I couldn't use the flash, because it was framed in glass. It does show a hot time was had by all in there.

eh, maybe this image of me making the photograph is better:

25-01-2008 oh, those memories . . .
What an avalanche of memories were released by yesterday´s piece, it´s astounding! Heaven, of course was a place where I sneaked off to as a teenage kid, on trips with some of my schoolmates that were also infatuated with some part of the British pop culture. We bought tax free Dutch gin on board of the Hook of Holland Harwich ferry, which we then poored into hipflasks, to be taken along to the London clubscene, where

Mannen onder mekaar, ja echt waar! translated: Hartevelt, when men ar with men ;)
strong drinks were beyond our means and the stale week beer was too disgusting for us continentals. The admittance already was so much that my schoolfriends prefered the free concert of Madness in the Park. Not that I minded being on my own, just bought myself a Heaven vest, and danced my ass off, fueled by Hartevelt Jenever. (As I was one of the youngest there I could not complain of lack of attention)

This urges me to dig up the image that explains how and why I got in there, taken that same year on top of what was then still WTC.

24-01-2008 Marc Almond again
Enjoying the 'pop on trial' history season at BBC4, and screamed my head off when both Neil Tennant and Andy Bell told they got their original thrill from the moment Marc took off his glasses in the video below. Now THAT was something no gay-flirting new-romantic band, like ABC, Spandau Ballet, Human League, Duran, Depeche, could pull off, and it was exactly how I felt too, when I first saw Soft Cell on tv:

Touched by the great stories about Jimmy Sommerville, Right said Fred, Boy George and his drummerboy, Gay Macho Clones, Donna Summer, Lime, and Franky, Hi NRG, So many men so little time, and then HIV, the decline of Freddy, and sitting alone again in your bedroom, with the Smith . . .
Oliver Frey again, made this ad for Heaven, then owned by Richard Branson Never knew the Smith picked their name just to be as boring and average as possible and distance themselves from pretentious double names like Spandau Ballet. Maybe you should also watch Blur, done a decade later, or better still the best sold band of the 80's: Franky goes to Hollywood. This version was banned from the BBC and USA TV, as it promoted sexual perversity, yeah right, give me a ban like that !

I never understood why YOU should pay for doing slave labour! If these gyms generated electricity with your power they could pay the visitors. But then they would get in trouble with working conditions inspectors (what we here call the Arbo law), because it would be too unhealthy for several body parts. I do know quite a few friends of mine who were on intensive training plans that have developed heart conditions. Another survey here found out that guys who have a nice relaxed tummy live on average 2 years longer then guys with washboard abs. Also guys who regularly take vitamine supplements live 2 years shorter.
No, it's not that I don't move my ass: I cycle, run regularly and have for the past 3 decades kept a weekly swim regimen, where I have maintained a 1,5 km in 30 minits average. Worst problem with all these exercizes is they are sooooooo booooooring that they surely kill more braincells then smoking or exessive drinking.

Alexandre Despatie, Canadian diver There I also feel swimming is the exception to the rule, especially for us gay men: there is soooo much to see, especially under water! The faster swimmers do wear gorgeous speedos and aussiebums (the kids who cant swim stick to the ridiculous Turks-tents, with an even more ridiculous air bulge pulling their asses up). Besides that, public pools have single bath options or 12 baths cards (mine even has the steamroom included in the price), instead of a contract for a full season, to be payed in advance, regardless how many times you attend. comment?

20b-01-2008 sponsoring macho sports
The macho energy company I mentioned in 20a also was a main sponsor of the most macho sport: footbal. Luckily, in this olympic year they moved away from that as they've finally read the report that individual sporters seem to have a far more women- and homo friendly image then teamsporters. Never has this thesis been better demonstrated then in the following commercials:

I just checked, and it is, for 7 years now, one of the highest rated commercials at Commercial Closet. On the other hand the org gives it a thumbs down for using gay stereotypes. Delta Lloyd also made this one:

Looking back at the commercial elections, there was one that I had in my shortlist, because the images were so strong and the song was sooo goood. And it was based on the theme that is closest to evey Dutchman: our struggle against the water. But it fell out, due to the immense inpopularity of the power company it tried to sell: Nuon. They have been very, VERY male chavinist in their publicity sofar. They've also recently decided to build some more cole powered plants. I'm happy to be buying my power from a much more modest company, eneco.

Not wanting to pry into the internal affairs of the USA, but still having opinions. my voteI just did a 'find your candidate' test on a dutch site. The result is based on the answers you give to 24 questions and should deliver you closest to a certain candidate in a field ranging from economic left to right and from liberal to conservative. Now there are problems with this. even the the best candidate never wins

most conservative Dutch politician would still end up in the top half and even the most rightwing would also end up more to the left when reset to the US mindset. I may already have subconciously moved somewhat to a US mindset in my answers.
Still the result comes close to where i want to be. My thinking is that the US democrats may want to elect Obama, but then will never win the final election if the republicans come up with their most modest candidate. In a weekend where some more states make up their minds I just stick to mine and hope the democrates will stick to the Capitol HillBillies team , the worlds best chance for a decade of stability and economic repairs.

17-01-2008 ellen and oprah
I'm really happy Ellen finally threw Oprah off the nr. 1 ratings position of USA talkshows. For a number of reasons:
big girls don't cry
No, not the obvious, although I do rather see a dyke. But more importantly, Oprah stands for tradition and classic American family values and Ellen stands for girls who've left that behind and shows it can be really nice to live a different life. It's about time muiddle America gets used to that! But most important, Oprah supports Obama, and although I also rather see a goodlooking black hunk as president then a sedate middle aged woman, I think Hillary stands a much better chance in the end against the republicans. Ellen has not taken a stand yet, but I'm sure a women's girl like Ellen will back her. She also seems to present the Oscar night, if it does go ahead, plus, Oprah seems to be planned as guest in the Ellen show. To see those two dance will be a gas! comment?

We do have quite a lot of waterhouse projects around here, as you can see below: With amounts of rain increasing our rivers and pumping facilities limited, we need a lot more open water to buffer surges. As there is no building ground left in our country, we cannot but start building on water, both floating and on poles, so that waterreserves can be kept under our buildings.

15-01-2008 Warhols
Looking for something else, I came across this live verson of "HomoBohemian like you". There are four reasons for adding it here;
first:
the fond memory of that time my friend Coen played his own dancemix of the song while I was being fucked in the cellar of the Wasdag, while the guy was hanging over my back singing along in my ear: "Yeah I like you, I like you, I like you, and I feel Aha, ooh ooh Oohooh, ooh ooh Oohooh: Wait!"
second reason: Courtney Taylor, the singer sports a superhot mohawk in this clip, which makes me pee in my pants. Third: There is also a clip on youtube from Glastonbury, which has been viewed 100.000 times more, which is very badly mixed: guitars and trumpet hardly audible. As a theater technician and close friend to some of the best soundmixers in my country, I must give credit where credit is due. Four: The same goes for the crowd vibes and cam direction, which is helped significantly because the song was done during a fierce thunderstom instead of sweltering midday heat.
you have even hotter song memories?

13-01-2008 more politics/response to Drub
With 50% of the readers coming from the USA and 30 from NL and judging some of the reactions, I'm somehow seen as ambassador or mediator in Dutch/American relations. I don't fancy that role much, so I have just one more bit of writing to add to the theme started on the 8th and 9th. Just to show that it's not just silly fanatic me, but something felt deeply across the land.
Tonight I saw a bit of the election of the tv moment of 2007 on Dutch tv. The winning fragment is here:

Hans Teeuwen is a stand up comedian, I've written about earlier (11-12-07). He wrote a song that the 3 muslim ladies presenting this show found offensive. One bit went: "Christian dogs, Mohammed, everyone joins in for free, Jesus and Mohammed on a public lavatry. Fuck, now I use offensive language once more: To repent I'll have my dick sucked by Halal ladies who're really hardcore". The translation of the quintessential part of the discussion that followed (between 1m21 s and 5m42s and I've made the girls text yellowish and Hans' words blueish) is here:
Why did you insult us? Because it was funny and it rhymed. No seriously, because you girls are always so virginal and pious, I just had to place it in a sexual context. Why do you insult so much, and not just us 3 , but whole religions? Because churches and all other authorities represent power, and if power can no longer be rediculed, then we drift into dictatorship, and I'd hate that. You've said everybody has the right to be offensive. Yes, because appearantly, my true felt opinions, that I don't force onto anybody can be offensive. On top: there are things that some people rather not hear, so if I say it and they didn't plug their ears in time they are offended? And yes, if I write a song I'd like people to laugh and somtimes being offensive can be tremendously funny. But where is the limit? The limit lies at violence. So first you make peoples blood boil and then you say, cool down, dont react; you cross my limit? Fuck, you act like being offended is a privilege for religeous people. Don't you think I see things that irritate me on tv? In our society we devellop a shield for those things: In a free world we are confronted with homos being hanged for the sake of religious purity. Religious people think they have the monopoly on the truth. I just heard you guys say that homosexuality is a sin. That I find just as offensive.
It goes on a bit more, but I guess the quotes make clear why this attempt at communicating basic values was thought to be the most powerful tv clip of the year (together with a touching piece about kidney transplants and why so few people are willing to sign a donation testament). comment?

09-01-2008 Thoughts of yesterday elaborated deeper and deeper
Felt I should take some more time to clarify that in Europe we're going through a different stage on the route towards a multicultural society then the Americans. The USA has from its founding been a multiracial nation of immigrants. Here much of that is new. We've opened up all internal EU borders, and have allowed in an enormous amount of new compatriots from all over the world in the past decades. Many as refugees, but most as workers to relief stress in our expanding economy, both at the bottom end (construction and agricultural workers) as at the top: (communications, science, universities). At the top end we seem to have very few problems: There the immigrants are mostly from India or China and seem to blend easily in our culture. I have, for example, a very nice chinise gay tenant these days, who works at a science research institute here in Delft.
text in middle: crash course Dutch 4 Polaks: faster faster, hurry hurry up, and fuck off!
At the bottom end things are much more complicated. There are much less funds to provide adequate housing and often to start off there was no intention to make the stay in our country long term, so the need to assimilate, learn the language, adept to local culture and peculiarities is minimal. In my area a lot of Poles have moved into agriculture. They work long hours, to earn as much as possible in a minimal period. When they do relax they tend to make the experience as efficient as possible too: they go out on the town with crates of beer they bought at supermarkets. Now there may be places in Poland where that is usual, but when you bring your own booze into any establishment in Holland, you are definitely looking for trouble. Couple that with the fact that the bar they entered was our local gay community center and the, in our eyes, medeaval views the average Pole has on religion and homosexuality, and you will agree that this was a highly inflammable situation. We did manage to get them to leave the premisses. But a few minits later, when I was the first to leave after the incident, they proved to be waiting outside and the fight that ensued, looked pretty fatal for me, as nobody inside had noticed anything yet, so I was up against 3 of them. Luckily the fight ended in the canal. As one of them tried to push me in, I managed to pull him along in the water. As they all couldn't swim the advantage turned to me, as the one in the water panicked and the other two did not dare to come in and help him. Luckily at that point others inside became aware of the mayhem. Which made the Poles flee. The police and fire department (in diving gear, to look for possible drowning victims) were on the spot in seconds. But the police at that time had no adequate strategies to deal with partying gaybashers, refused to start a pusuit (which was very easy; they just had to follow the fresh water trail along the canal), with the argument that we, the regular patrons, had also been drinking.

In Amsterdam similar things happen, with groups of young maroccans attacking individual gay men on their way home from parties in the gay hotspots. This is seriously threatening the position of Amsterdam as a tolerant gay tourist attraction. Our old style politics just is much too soft in getting to the core of these problems, with the socialists and christians attracting a significant vote from the muslim community they just cover things up.

That is why I'm re-assessing my own political course. The right has blown itself up since Pim got assasinated, one part got so extreme and intolerant that you can only laugh or cry, the other half has moved so far to the left that they could just as well join our labour party. The left has betrayed its former core membership, opening up our employment market to the entire world but forgetting about the 45 to 65 generation, where social security has been minimised together with their chances of employment. This while their former prime minister now earns an a-social salary of 14 times that of our prime minister at the board of one of our biggest bank conglomerates. The only true left party we have now is as dogmatic and undemocratic as the Chinese communists.

So, for me, as gay person, any religion based party is out of the question. The only place I can find refuge is a small central liberal reform party called D'66. But with them I also have questions: They support deepening democracy. I feel our country has all the democracy it needs. We have 3 layers of representration, where professionals are in place to make well funded decisions. They are controlled by the electorate and their parties. We do not need to get each and everybody involved as amateur politicians in more detailed decisions. With referenda the general public has proved to make awful choices: they tend to choose the most conservative options (it was good as it was, fat chance of it getting better) and also have a strong tendency to go for the "not in my backyard" option: sentiments seem to blur their broader view.

Results of that: we've banned nuclear plants from our country, but just as easily import nuclear power now from France to meet our goals in CO2 emissions. Terrible examples where environmentalists mis-use local democracy and block progress can be found near my hometown: to the south environmentalists held up the final stretch and completion of the A4 motorway (main route between Amsterdam and Rotterdam) for 30 years now. To the north they continue to delay projects to ease the worst congested piece of road of our country between Leiden and Schiphol airport. Result: People are spending èver more time in their cars, but now stationary, emitting even more CO2. The competitive economic edge our region had in Europe is seriously endangered. Other examples are the farce we see now with the elections of mayors: the choices are pre-cooked by the existing politicians and then the public gets to choose out of just two candidates. Which has now resulted in the complete loss of interest by the public for these elections and repeated cases of the results being declared null and void, through too low attendance.

As this party has always had a strong gay base and the highest percentage of gay representatives, was the motor behind clearing away our last remains of inequality based on sexual preferences, is the only one I see here that truly dares to take a critical look inside, does not blindly stick to earlier standpoints but instead appears willing to re-evaluate earlier choices, I seriously consider joining. I'm just waiting for them to revoke the decision of their former minister of health to place poppers on the forbidden substances list. As the rest of Europe did not follow suit, the only result is that they are now twice as expensive here then in our neighbour countries: Ridiculous with the open borders! comment?

Looked around for one of my fav songs of all time How soon is now by The Smiths. Morrissey has caused quite a media stirr with an interview in the NME where he made some critical remarks about UK immigrants. It even caused my good friend Drub to denounce him. With all respect, I wish to differ: NME is known to me as a loudmouthed UK pop-zine with opinions that fit its audience: boys that have no pubes yet (yes I read it too, at that age), as is shown by this piece by the author in question.

Pim's Absurd Reality by Jean Thomassen. Note that Theo van Gogh, former prime minister Kok and lots of other NL celebs are also on it
Having known Mr. Fortuyn quite intimately (this blog goes back to 2000, so do read back to when he was still alive), I'm very weary of people who will cry wolfe, as soon as somebody makes a critical remark about immigrants or fanatical religions. Serving people off as ultra right wing or fascist based on a few easy and superficial quotes without taking the trouble to get into the deeper background has already cost the lives of my friend Pim and another brilliant Dutch author and filmmaker. It gives very little comfort to know that the assasins are in jail. It is very important to bring across to immigrants that they can only enjoy the benifits of a tolerant society if they practice that same tolerance in return. Both muslim and many recent immigrants from Poland don't seem to realise that. Even the UK catholics are having problems with the influx of orthodox Poles. There is some comfort in the fact that our Labour party still has not recovered from the electoral blow Pim gave them (and probably never will). But the biggest smile on my face still comes from his books' supersharp observations of our social and political climate served up with a good dose of sexual experiences with both thick skinned socialists, tight assed christians and big dicked muslims. Plus, of course, his expert rimming capabilities. comment?

07-01-2008 poz interiors

p239
as there are really very few nice interiors in pornpix, here's a lesson from a renowned queer artist: use a wide angle lense, keep it really, REALLY horizontal and shove an asshole and a cock, preferably into each other, but quite close to the lense, and Bobs your Uncle! comment?
06-01-2008 Eric de Kuyper
He's one of the greatest and most inspiring lecturers I've ever known. (oops, what am I saying here; I've also known Pim Fortuyn quite intimately, that is, if you considere rimming as intimate, and I do). I attended one of his lectures once about "The gay divorcee", in filmhuis Den Haag, about beauty, style, men and dancing. Last week I saw that movie again on tv, and, as I found no clip online, digitized "the Continental" myself and transfered it to youtube. It's the first true dancemix, taking almost 20 minits of extended song, mass-dance and choreography, litfted to divine heights by solos of Fred and Ginger. The continued return of the themes just never gets boring. Great rhimes from the lyrics: "On the dikes of Zuiderzee, the wooden shoes have found a key" and "It's nothing but fever and a plague, from Moscow to The Hague."
Mr. de Kuyper is still around, but made his last films, based on the stylish dancers of recession days Hollywood, back in the eighties, mixed with the sublimated erotic fantasies we remember from the film of John Bidgood Pink Narcissus, but then in supersharp black and white. These days he just writes and travels around his favorite cities. In his everlasting atraction to cities I find a lot of myself:
"I made a mistake in moving to Nijmegen: smaller cities, like Bergen op Zoom, Delft, Zwolle, have a lot more atmosphere than middle large ones, like Eindhoven, Den Haag, Arnhem. Culturally there may be less happening in the smaller cities, but pleople are more motivated to coöporate: The filmhuis does promotion together with the library, the bookshop, and so on. Resulting in cohesion and atmosphere. Bigger cities always try to compete with Amsterdam. Only Rotterdam, Groningen and Utrecht succeed, partially. All others, try but cannot reach, instead of just doing whatever they please, which works paralizing." He, like me has strong thoughts about cities abroad too: Initially I found nothing appealing in Frankfurt, while later on I loved it tremendously. You can find out so much more about cities if you're not walking around like a tourist but are actually working there. I'm glad to have worked in cities like Parijs, Bologna and Zürich and love to have 'pieds à terre' there. Someone once told me: Humans are not born with roots, but with 2 legs; that's not coincidental!
Me, having worked on theater projects not only in the cities mentioned, but also in Berlin, Vienna, Stutgart, München, Sienna, Reggio Emilia, london, Paris, New York, Montreal, Toronto, NYC, cannot but agree. as there is a max of 10 minits to youtube vids, part 2 of this video is here:

03-01-2008 Thunderbirds night
instead of watching the show mentioned yesterday I landed in the middle and got stuck with thundebirds night on BBC4, which reminded me again of some of the heroes of Oliver Frey:

of course loads of Frey fantasies are in the 7 galleries dedicated to his action adventures at delftboys' masterclass. comment?
02-01-2008 Sex with mum & dad returning to BBC Three on 2 January 2008

For British families, sex is never an easy topic to discuss. So imagine having a full-on, no holds barred conversation with your mum and dad about exactly what you got up to last night. Worse still, imagine your parents giving you a blow-by-blow(job) account of the kind of things they do to each other...
The programme employs the techniques of Dutch Sexologist Maria Schopman, who has come to the UK to help British families. Maria aims to increase trust in the family unit in the area where sex and psychology meet and shake off their embarrassment and increase awareness. The more families talk, the less there is to sweep under the carpet where it can fester and become a real problem.
Can sexology save these families? Watch with Mum and Dad to find out.

But then, maybe I should have a word about the dutch variety of this show on BNN called "squirting and swallowing" where the squirting is about both cum into asses or other orifices as well as of substances into your veins, and swallowing is both about pills and, again, sexual juices. This is also a typical Dutch program, based on the philosophy that it's always better to give good information then spread fear and half truth. All presenters in the team do engage themselves in the activities that are themed, and not a single drug is excluded, nor any sexual activity, be it (normally) called gay or straight. comment?

Ships that pass in the night
and speak each other in passing;
Only a signal shown;
a distant voice in the darkness
So on the ocean of life we pass
Only a look and a voice;
a touch
extacy
then darkness again
and a silence.
