Conclusion: it's miles above the small, bitchy, politically correct, scared clichees of GayKrant/Winq/Squeeze/GayNews/COCmags
On the cover, as promised, the now (becoz of these pix) suspended presenter of our fundamentalist christian tv channel with the obvious title "and god created Arie"
our + & proud org advised me against taking part on their article on bareback sex. But if you preach the strategy of "better safe than sorry" on too many aspects, you do run the risk of getting overtaken on the right (don't tell a motorbiker any different). Besides that they chose another headline our 'correct' media would tippytoe around': "do the pope a favour: bareback!". The article is quite balanced and manages to portray 4 barebacking guys, not as mindless criminals but as rational strategists.

Vrouwtje van Velzen pakt door, or how dangerously dogmatic our left and ultra right have become :
In Holland it's always been politically correct to be critical of our defence efforts. For years I've been part of the correct masses, even used homosexuality to stay out of the army when that was still possibe. Nowadays I feel it's far more correct to be ultra critical of best friends.
Sure, I, as most of our parliamentarians, distrust the weapon lobbyists as a second nature, but we all know that we will have to pay dearly in the end if we want our defences on a level that will prevent pacifist surprises as we last encountered in the years leading up to WWII. Besides that we also know the good it does to not only have trigger happy Americans flying around in the deadliest warcrafts and to also have a few down to eath Dutchmen doing the same job. We've seen the difference just a few of our self critical guys made and still do in Bosnië, Irak and Afghanistan, even or maybe especially when there's not a happy end. And if we do want our forces to be deployed in peace-keeping missions in future, do we implicitly leave air defence of our troups to the triggerhappy world champions of friendly fire?
Discussion now is: where is the enemy? Since the Russians are a decade or more behind in developing similar crafts.
I feel: as we do not know the future, we should always be prepared for the worst: fundamentalists getting their hands on nuclear weapons or hijack super-crafts. Even though getting a plane from the drawing board into the air takes 30 years, this plane's training and testing prototype already has more sophisticated capabilities to tackle Taliban-like assaults on our ground troups in Afghanistan with more accuracy and far less chance of friendly fire accidents.
I'm afraid the SP when they have axed the JSF will continue on the SAAB and other options untill they have budgetted away our entire airforce.
We've also seen how misleading the left is in the Rotterdam council, where they still try to defend the city employing a high profile Muslim Terrorist, already expelled from the USA under their Home Secuities Act and denied employment at the uni of Strassbourg by mr Sarkouzy. The guy, Tariq Ramadan, has obviously been speaking with different tongues: maintaining an image of a tolerant new-age citizen, but in his recentrly disclosed adresses to the muslim community, maintaining homosexuality is wrong and confirming that muslims hot only have a right but also a duty to kill homosexuals.
Why is it that an out homo with a weblog gets axed at job applications with no questions asked and a closeted terrorist, when found out, can stay on at the city of Rotterdam?comment?

Dutch, eh, Haags, Delfts dilemma . . . when will we finally be at ease . . .
Stop worrying that we'll always be vile perverts to some of the other 95%
When can we have an exhibition that does not drown in self denyal and fiddledidle around the core of our identity
and will the 95% stop visiting this site, our fairs exhibs or our parties when they have issues with that?
Do we have to go to Los Angeles while our culture here fails miserably in a misguided attempt to be politically correct and acceptable? Do we need guys like Raymann to hammer the nail on the head, like in his show last week: "who are more prepared to adapt to muslim rule then the homos? They agreed to keep men and women completely separated!"
The problem never was what others think of us (half a million will remain curious and jealous and come to see naked men at canalpride). The problem was the deranged sickos within our community, who keep nagging we should pose as 'normal' or 'straight acting' and lock our zippers to be acceptable. Can we pleez remain the vile perverts we always were ?comment?

Well, some say I'm difficult too, but Truus to me was the easiest, most trusting, most gratifying theater maker I've èver worked with. And if they don't listen to me, and who can blame them, let's get the message prepped up by one of the hottest, nasty voiced professionals èver:
Maybe you'd rather read the full story instead of selected quotes:
Rupert Everett, currently garnering raves on Broadway for his role in the Noel Coward revival of Blithe Spirit, has a reputation for outrageous candor. Here, he rips out his exasperation with the British homos to Kevin Sessums
More on Rupert on my movies page
So how’s the run going? I was sitting in a Starbucks yesterday in the theatre district and three teenage boys from Kentucky were up here for spring break, boys who came to New York to see theatre on spring break instead of ogling girls in Daytona Beach. They were swooning over you.
That’s sweet. But the audiences here compared to London audiences are very warm to start with. There’s an enthusiasm. When you’re European and you came here back in the 1970s, that’s what you came for—this amazing American enthusiasm. I’ve gotten in touch with that a bit again doing this play. In London, the audience is like a bunch of old sluts who can never cum. They’re mean and dare you to entertain them.
So you’re homesick.
In fact, I am at the moment. Very. But not for the English audience.
What draws you to Coward? Where do you rank him as a writer? Below Shakespeare and above you?
He’s a great writer while being a funny little one also. I say funny little one because of his obsession with class and the class he came from. For example, in Blithe Spirit the class he paints is this weird, wonky kind of circus-mirror class that doesn’t exist but is his version of a something of a something and none of it quite makes sense. But at the same time there is a Chekhovian side of Coward waiting to be mined. There’s something lyrical and rather touching at how his characters use manners to mask a sort of sadness, and yet he is quite savage about relationships.
One of the things you’ve had to say over and over again is that you’re gay. And yet when those teenagers from Kentucky were talking about you, that’s one of the things they were so appreciative about. You're their role model.
God, I hope not. I don’t think kids should have role models. They’re disastrous. My own role models were stars who were tortured and downed barbiturates on film sets and I thought that was just the coolest thing. Montgomery Clift and people like that, but having role models is terrible.
When you came out of the closet did it upset your rather upper-class family back in Britain? I know your great uncle Donald Duart Maclean was part of the Cambridge Five and was a double agent for the Soviets. He was even made a brevet colonel in the KGB. Which was more upsetting to your parents, having a Soviet spy in the family or an avowed homosexual?
Oh, an avowed homosexual. They would have much preferred I be a double agent. But they are quite old now, and age has a way of knocking down a lot of things that mattered before. They are very sweet, my parents, but very sad in one sense, as they don't have grandchildren.
But being gay doesn’t preclude one from having children. You could adopt or go the surrogacy route that so many gay men are using these days.
I think this surrogacy thing is crap. It is utterly hideous. I think it’s egocentric and vain. And these endless IVF treatments people go through. I mean, if you are meant to have babies then great. But this whole idea of two gay guys filling a cocktail shaker with their sperm and impregnating some grim lesbian and then it gets cut out is just really weird. If I did have the impulse to be a parent, I would adopt—or foster. But this whole thing of forcing the idea of parenthood on us gay men is so bogus. Marriage? Babies? Please. I want to be illegal. I want to live outside the mainstream.
You’re so old-fashioned.
Or am I slightly ahead of the curve? It has to change. These awful middle-class queens—which is what the gay movement has become—are so tiresome. It’s all Abercrombie & Fitch and strollers. Everybody has the right to do what they want to do, but still...
It’s good to know you’re not judgmental. Do you regret having come out as a gay man? Does it anger you that a lot of actors who are gay have chosen not to come out and have better careers to show for it?
No. What I find I regret—what pisses me off—is this complicity among everyone else against a queen even though they don’t even know it. Even people who consider themselves thoughtful. So what people say about me is, “Isn’t it amazing that you didn’t really try very hard in your career? Your career is so up and down.” But the reason my career is so up and down is that I get very little opportunity. There is just very little opportunity for a fag. That’s the reality. There isn’t. But I have no regrets for being out. None. It’s not like I’m missing out on that much. Being an actor in Hollywood is not that great a job anymore. It’s become the sluttiest job on the planet. It’s not remotely serious. We're not talking about Hollywood in the 1970s anymore. I'm not that upset not to be in Ocean's 15 or whatever.
Gavin Creel, who is so remarkable as the lead in the revival of Hair—he plays Claude—just gave an interview and came out. He said that if it hurts his career so be it, that he’d rather have a life than a career.
I’d definitely rather have a life, too. He’s right. I find it’s made me much more interesting because it’s forced me to find alternative means of employment. It forced me to become a writer. It forced me to live in France. It forced me to work in Italy. It forced me to go to Russia. It forced me to write my own script about Oscar Wilde I hope to get made one day.
You’re even on the masthead of Vanity Fair as a contributing editor.
I know. Who does one have to fuck to get OFF that masthead? He's such a weird character, their Editor Graydon Carter. He's certainly not the buffoon he looks like. He is an amazing fuck. And you can quote me on this.
Irreverence is certainly one of your calling cards. Is it why Channel Four in England hired you to host a series of travel documentaries. You’ve done shows about the explorer Sir Richard Burton and another two retracing Lord Byron’s journeys in Albania and Greece. Did you swim the Hellespont—or the Dardanelles, as it’s called today—like Byron did?
I attempted to swim it, yes. But we were forced to stop because of the tankers. Channel Four wanted a bit of sex and drugs and rock ’n’ roll in the documentaries and it was difficult to incorporate that in a travel documentary. Sir Richard Burton’s life was all about sexuality in Africa so that sort of fit. And then I thought that Byron had a bit of all that in his day.
Did you identify with his lover Lady Caroline Lamb’s description of him as “mad, bad, and dangerous to know”?
A bit, yes. But then we looked at his life in Greece and Albania where he was as serious a revolutionary as Che Guevara or Bolivar.
He's considered bisexual today, wrote poems about Harrow schoolboy days. Those lovely lines: “Ah! Sure some stronger impulse vibrates here, which whispers friendship will be doubly dear to one, who thus for kindred hearts must roam, and seek abroad the love denied at home.”
In that regard, his saddest love affair was his last one when he went to Greece to escape his girlfriend and he finally fell in love with this boy called Lukas. By this time Byron had turned into a kind of pastiche of himself. Dyed hair. Slightly overweight. And for the first time ever he was rejected. One of his last poems that is seldom ever published is the poem he wrote to Lukas. It’s the saddest poem I’ve ever read about unrequited love. He was ultimately a sweet character, Lord Byron. A sweet man—which is finally a nice way to be remembered.

Moslim and Homo, kan dat samen? Nee, dan moet je dood!
Can a Muslim be a homo? No, then he must die! Is what I heard last night on Dutch tv; it was not uttered in Iran, but by Muslim street thughs in Amsterdam West. As I already reported on march 31st, the muslim leader of the local council of A'dam New West now wants the Amsterdam pride to start right in the middle of the muslim ghetto there, and he repeated his invitation to the Christian fundamentalist minister of youth and family affairs to be there as well today on our countries most watched talkshow.
It remains a courageous gesture! No response yet by the minister. Just deadly silence. Homosexuality can not be accepted in their primitive concept of religion is what we keep hearing (not in Budhism). Why then is atrocious violence still encouraged in their 'ideal' environment. Coz it's macho, I guess . . .
Rayman, Surinam comic, about al the religious mayhem about gay issues: What's their problem with gay events in A'dam West? They promis to respect muslim tradition:
men and women will be kept completely separate at all times! We'll keep you posted . . .
we could have a veritable homo saint if those hypocrite Catholics just had some true moral courage:
gay = not Ok while cocky violence in the name of 'a god' = Fine ?
And granted, I can't deny that some of us may be looking forward to being overpowered, and assaulted, in a mix af sexual fantasy and sado masochistic yearning. I sure am no stranger to those sentiments or experiences. Now you may say, thats sick and dangerous. Maybe so, still, why would the Roman Catholic church celebrate the religious extacy in Bernini's face of Santa Theresa as one of the most precious art exhibits of the Vatican and condemn our version? Isn't that all just as or even more sick and a pack of criminal double standards?

while we're on the theme of infantile: child porn from Copenhagen time for my monthly reminder of the (slow) progress on the Bernard case
An amsterdam D.A. that thinks this all is illegal and should be destroyed, even though it was made ages before the recent christian fanatic law change. Would that not be the best thing, to wind up the current recession with another iconoclasm? Like in the past: blame the perverts instead of the bank managers and politicians
And No, we're not the only country to go completely insane . . .
It seems that every now and then politicians think they should feed on "gesundes Volksempfinden", to get the masses to vote, and 'perverted' artists just have to keep their breath, until another period of 'enlightenment' comes along.

and now for something completely . . . infantile . . . and less depressing
no surprise
a case of old news, known to most in our circles, was press-released by A'dam health authorities. It just proves failing campagning sofar, given that 'so called' professional campaign designers and the orgs grabbing from the subsidies trough still stick to ducking their heads in the sand and to keep thinking 'prohibition' can ever work: drop responsibility back to where it should be; with the guys engaging in the activities. A wide and èver growing number of people delve into the èver more aluring bare circuit. Because it does its promotion so much better then then the orgs, even if it's gone underground, and probably even because it has gone underground.
the 100% condom strategy was a mistake from the start: better practical information and increased emphasis on frequent testing makes far more sense. As reported on +&P: very few are aware of the impact of viral load on infectiousness. Also, if I might add: Nobody ever did much research on what I consider the most dangerous practice: guys going round our playgrounds sticking their fingers from one ass into the other, without as much as clipping fingernails, damaging anal inner lining as they go, nor using any form of desinfecting, not even washing up, if that would help (probably would agravate their infectuousness and did we not always preach that shitty fingers smell better then soapies). I say : unprotected fingers are more dangerous than unprotected cocks (for the receivers).comment?

if youtube does not know how to make the distinction . . .
Yep lots of gay material gets axed on youtube by morons, as soon as they see the slightest bit of frontal nudity or gayety. After being flagged you run the risk of getting banned. Of course you can resort to X-tube for your daily dose of porn, but not all gay content is porn, is it? not? and if . . . so what ?
The good thing is that this ultimately leads us to just build and find our own channels. And doorQ may be one:
