Mission Statement (warning: not a pretty picture) Once, every now and then, I have to point out [to myself?] what I'm doing here and what kept this blog and the other sites I run going while I see others drop by the side of the road and re-adress the issues I feel strongly about: one word: Pieter and his favorite song: "diving for dear life, when we could be diving for pearls". And yes, before reading on, just listen to this song once again in an even better version. Right now, with canalpride coming up, organised by Frank van Dalen, former COC CEO and thus responsible for a lot what's wrong and in desparate need of re-adressing these days in our culture, is the best time of the year to do so. 
I do have a little hope with the new COC chairman, but, when I talked with him at the recent DWH lustrum he too, tried to sweet talk and cover up or lay blame at another level, of what I consider fundamental errors of past strategies. Sure I come from the Rooie Flikker era, when we had to shake up the stale bedding in which the fifties and sixties gay culture hade fallen into insomnia. Right now, the only org left from those days is de Trut, for the rest everything is left to a much too young generation, only trained in market strategy and suit & tie networking, to see what's going wrong. Corporatism between politics, subsidisers and screaming media campaign designers, all just as busy maitaining the status quo, without adressing mistakes. Without questioning themselves: stupid! Nobody analises why Amsterdam lost its position as gay capital, National COC started with the strategy of licking up and kicking down: Move to Den Haag; where you can lobby, and forget about your own community hungering out on the street without a place to meet in Amsterdam. Even there National COC blames COC Amsterdam, for the desastrous strategies of kicking out all the great events that had rooted in their building through the eighties and early nineties (like XXX leather, popular till the end and a legend to thousands) and then making a loss and having to sell the place. I N S A N I T Y ! flush out the white stripe suits and everybody responsible for those disasters: Amsterdam does not need to be turned into one huge homo museum: it needs a fitting venue for our minority to celebrate its diverity! and we had it ! The same happened in my hometown, where the sex parties were banned and the entire community that built up this local org for decades was kicked out. Luckily: what comes around goes around, or you only harvest what you sow, so the guys who think they hold the fort there will have an increasingly hard time hangin on to it: for decades I have defended the Delft homo-monopoly at LG 22, but that was a good thing only as long as it was progressive and renewing and was a guiding light for most local gay orgs in the country, which was kept up for over 30 years. Now sadly it's just as chocking as COC Amsterdam. It's time to let competition show them what market strategy does not work for a minority: we are doomed to be part it it; we do not have to be convinced by watery ad campains! They failed to see in their Dutch Reformed Puritan Lutheranism and have allowed sectarism to devastatingly chew away at the fundaments of their small but vigilant community, in their small building rooted unshakable in Delft clay. They've failed to see that if you climb out of your hole, you're likely to be blown away, or eaten!  We are perverts and everybody who tries to cover up our erect cocks or deny the only bit of good analysis the religious fanatic powers that be ever did is betraying, forsaking our cause! What good is selling us commercially, so that half a million heterosexuals come to watch our ZOO making a fool of ourselves each year in the Amsterdam canals? What good is it that politicians and big comnpanies fall for the trick and sail along in ever increasing numbers, while the number of suicides amongst gay youth is rising alarmingly each year? That is because they paint a picture of us that is acceptable for our mums, our political parties, advertisement campaigns, but not for our testosterone filled genitals. Should we cut them off? should we cover up in shame? 
seriously forget about the only thing that undeniably sets us apart of procreating heterosexual fellow residents of this cringing planet that have, some argue, a purpose in keeping their genitals hidden under their marital duvet?    Canalpride should invite back the strategic nudity, inuendo, dare and challenge of gorgeous strippers they had on the floats of Cockring, MrB, Trash and Cuckoos Nest years ago, to scare away the politicions.  Is there anything good to report? YEP! Out tv! Not sure how they will look on their Amsterdam boat première, but this past year has been a sigh of relief on my home screen: it just made me feel priviledged to be alive and unemployed at this moment in time! Such whealth! At last programming that does not take homos for ignorent mindless, dickless, shallow nitwits! Showing for instance that it is not insane to choose life instead of market strategy: better to have lived then to have survived way too far into the wheelchair days (even if you don't consider healthcare doom and gloom). a Great UK series based on Alan Hollinghurst's materpiece on Dutch out tv right now. So: another bit: If there is anything I would like to see now is Poz & Proud promoting the pil van Drion because I do not think there's much chance of us turning our future perspectives around anytime soon. And that has little or nothing to do with that virus, which queer culture and scarecrows allowed to ruin our lives for some 30 years (but should not have to from now on, if only we would make real decisions). It would be sooo environmentally friendly and hopefully leave our planet to a wiser generation. (and help NS reach its target of running trains on time, now obstructed by the mess of people jumping in front of em) And, no, I'm not turning my back on our community: au contraire! Culture, a turnaround in canal pride programming, YEAH! Started last night with a marathon of 6 hours programmed by fashion designers Victor and Rolf on VPRO TV. One of the remarkable items next to moviesclips from Ludwig by Visconti, Paris is burning, Reve's 4th Man by Verhoeven, Leigh Bowery and a full showing of Maurice was this commercial: They argued that's "not funny", just like BNN's homo top 100 is not funny; just bad taste wih only cliché records showing how pathetic and SICK their image of queer culture is: FUCK OFF!! we do not need heteros making sick gay programs; they had poor taste all along, but their concept of homo music taste is the pitts. Fiction b 1st commment today: it's feminine to be into reading. That's not entirely new in our circles, but; a) I read far too little, b) I've been accused of being a child molester, a pervert, a queerulant . . . This new accusation makes me feel quite proud! Fiction This saturday I'll drop in at Prik, to listen to GJ Wielinga reading from his new gay horror novel around 17h00. To wind down I'll dive into the mix of hot and cool in the Cellars at Cuckoos Nest or Web.  Also been reading a lot in "Nomads on the Amstel" by Dave Richardson. That's written in English but plays in Amsterdam. wrote about this writer earlier this month on 14-7, a first for this blog to delve into gay fiction. Since then I've read more (he sent me 2 books) and I may see him at above reading. I'm amazed by how his work grabs me, and have been thinking, because it is Homo Holland seen through the eyes of an Englishman, painted vividly, humerously, with engaged sharp observations of 'our ways', 'our politics', 'our strategies', it lends itself to turning it into a tv series that could be fitting for out-tv, logo, or here. I thought it would be nice to have a dutch gay filmmaker like Tim Oliehoek, go to work on this. Just hope he is adult enough to be able to paint the pictures with the depth it should maintain. He already has a reputation in special effects. Now let's see if I can get him to read the PDF-file. I'm sure he would be perfect to turn the nightmarish scenes into hairraising imagery to haunt to in your sleep for weeks . pigflue really thought I had it; all the usual flue symptoms, week knees, sore throat, headache, light fever. And, yes, I could have contracted it at the care center where my mother is recovering after the stroke she had a while back. 
But, not one to panic or join hysteric hypochondriac behavior, as it was weekend I thought it wise to just stay home on the couch and watch some good movies, and if it was still the same on mondaymorning, go to the gp and get me a tamiflu prescription. If I did contract this specific virus, my resistance may be better then expected, coz mondaymorning the worst seems over; have just shopped to replenish the fridge and will resume work in a few hours. Further reading showed getting the drug so late in the flue would not have done much good anyway, and then there were the usual side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headache. Rare ones included: hepatitis and elevated liver enzymes, rash, allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, cardiac arrhythmia, seizure, confusion and hallucinations, aggravation of diabetes, and haemorrhagic colitis. And then I did not even mention neurologic effects: oseltamivir may cause dangerous psychological, neuropsychiatric side effects including self harm in some users. These dangerous side effects occur more commonly in children than in adults. This stems from cases in Japan, where the drug is most heavily prescribed. Concern has focused on teenagers, but problems have also been reported in children and adults. In March 2007, Japan's Health Ministry warned that oseltamivir should not be given to those aged 10 to 19. According to Japan's Health Ministry, fifteen people aged 10 to 19 have been injured or killed by jumps or fallen from buildings after taking oseltamivir, and one 17-year-old died after he jumped in front of a truck. impressive heavy drama: Good to find another Dutch guy (eh, expat?) writing gay fiction (or is it biographical?). I was Impressed! An exquisite bit of writing from a guy who commented on my pages recently: Dave Richardson, is what we dutch would say, Dave Rich, geen kattePitch, eh pis, or "No childs play" ! As this weblog will never shy away from drama, I'd like to share a fragment where he comes to an apocalyptic end in what is also the name of this diary, I suggest you read at least that fragment, from chapter 30 on page 46 of this PDF file . 
He mixes nightmarish (Jeroen Bosch) scenes with your (not so) average dutch gay daily life.
His website tells me his work can be obtained in print from Intermale, Vrolijk or ABC (American Book Center). Good to see, as since the departure of Reve and Komrij taking his distance, there is very little dutch gay fiction left. Maybe, because it is in English and about the Dutch, much, it appeals to me. Maybe he should talk with GJ Wielinga, who recently published a gay book called "schaduwland".

memories Flikker (Queer), made by Arthur Bueno from 8mm material of Rob de Vries about the emerging Dutch queer culture of the late seventies was on out-tv last nite. From the moment that de Vries came out, homosexuality played a role in all his films. Rob was the only filmmaker to document the Dutch fight for gay liberation from within the movement. After some thirty years, these images have literally come out of the closet. De Vries watches them again for the first time, together with the audience, and provides a cheerful commentary that carries us along a winding road of home movies, reportage, video diary avant la lettre, and hilarious fiction. The images bear witness to the joy, freedom, honesty and lack of pretension typical of the period and also to the sunny mentality of the man behind the camera. Of course my ass is in there multiple times and from multiple angles too. Michiel Just read his article in gaynews about two legends of postwar Dutch cult: Robert Jasper Grootveld and Benno Premsela. As I already wrote about the latter here at the time of his exhibition at Amsterdam Archive (26a-02-08), I much rather talk here about the Provo Hash promotor, known for his 'happenings' at Lieverdje, Spui and later on for his 'hash'-house-boat in the Amstel. Appropriate, now discussion is flaring up here to start governement controlled weed production. As the half hearted strategy of allowing 700 coffeeshops to sell but keeping production illegal, does get out of control just as it did with alcohol in the days of USA prohibition. Our agricultural scientists together with drug cartells have in 2 decades managed to increase THC strength of 'Nederwiet' to it being the strongest in the world, thus fueling the argument it can no longer be called a 'soft' drug. I never knew Grootveld had a homosexual history, and even less that it was, to say the least 'unglamerous' In fact: he was a biznis boy, who even went as far as to blackmail the bank-c.e.o. he had an affair with, presuming he would never dare to go to the police; but he miscalculated the courage of his victim, who did just that! Well, it just goes to show: our lives are sooo much more colorful if we do not shy away of showing the gory details! And if we do not shy away of walking the tightrope of the law. Which reminds me, of an event that happened to a friend of mine, who took home a punk hustler for an S&M session, who in turn tied him nude to a chair and robbed his house. It took him 2 days to make it 2 flights of stairs down to the front door, still tied to the chair and nude, to get rescued. It reminds me also of the increased risk I run myself with taking guys home for a fuck, as I still do. But then, why just get old and not live? Michiel of course had his share of experiences: I remember being with him in NYC and he told me at breakfast that he got fucked the night before by a gorgeous black boy on the backseat of a taxi, and asked me if I thought that was 'low risk'. On which I remember replying: "sure, if the driver kept his eyes on the road". I just found out last week he's now in the board of our national HIV org. With Michiel I also worked on a play about the life of de Merode, who got fired back in 1924 from his teaching job in the Groningen countryside for writing boy-poetry.  Merode only wrote poetry, was a much loved teacher and never any evidence was found that he even touched somebody, so in the end he got rehabilitated and even knighted, but still, it shows how then, just as it now seems to be possible AGAIN for religious fanatic moral dictators to ruin noble and righteous carreers. Unlike in the USA, where homo's are fighting for equal rights first time, we here in NL are forced into a battle to defend liberties we once had. And they are mostly under attack from within the 'gay' community. to close the Michael chapter: one big final SCREEEEAAAM!!! (a-capella version): Of course everybody is entitled to their rolemodel/heroe. But don't you feel sorry for the the black community? Claiming Michael Jackson back now he's dead: He wanted to be everything but black! It proves that It was his OWN community and his FAMILY that could not keep their hands off Michael! He only wanted to be a child lover; he even managed to ´obtain´ 3 superblond kids! His love for them and his desire to be both strong and soft / delicate surely was not too popular in black circles, the same circles that recently managed to deny homos in California the equal rights they themselves already enjoy for decades. And because he had astronomical amounts of money at his disposal he could pay legal fees to get away with it; and rightfully so, as the Orange County court and I agree, he never did kids any harm. So may he rest in peace, together with all those less whealthy who did find themselves in jail or murdered for the same or less. Let's be clear about this: mob justice when there is no evidence of any wrong doing, we call that hate crimes. uncensored video today I could access my youtube acount again, so I deleted all that could possibly be in violation of their terms (which in my case had nothing to do with copyright, nor frontal nudity. Only with 'so called' material that still could be considered offensive. The problem here is: it's not what I do that is considered offensive, but what I am. Just like blacks were offensive untill recently in the USA, or lepers in Africa). Well, I rebased the clips concerned immediately to gay owned servers, of course, because I now know youtube stands on the side of religious fanatics, who will object to everything that does not comply with their idea of 'god's plan'. Lesson leant: don't trust those so called advocates of the "normal" strategy: we are damned, doomed, and so my choice is to remain the pervert they say I am. Just secure our own fort instead of watering down of our basic values. That will get us nowhere, but to masses of useless suicides, wasted lives, and continuing hate crimes. They may look big and strong, but being intolerant to minorities will be the youtube downfall in the long run. continuing on the theme of july 1st: demonic sex While I'm on the more fantastic and demonic side of things,  One of the guys I always look forward to meeting 'in the flesh', when I attend the Tom of Finland artfair is Sean Platter. I might as well update you guys on the amazing plans of reproducing my fav cartoon of all time into a movie. I've chatted with art director Sean about the project: of course its virgin (?) territory that's being treaded here, both in financing as in the fact that this will be a cross over of animation, CGI or rendering, porn and regular acting. Sean who had his basic training in Hollywood and Disney cartoons has quite a network all through the bizniss. With the recession raging some of them have time on their hand and like the challenge of entering in a project that could change the future landscape rather then fill their wallets. Of course screenwriter Clive Barker (of Hellraiser fame) and porn actor Zak Spears, who already makes an apearance in the new episode of Demomic Sex (nr 4) that is due for release right now. I can only suggest you guys do get the hard copy version of the cartoon from hard tribe 666 to pull this project through the recession. Daniel Choi, a West Point graduate who stands to become the first New York National Guard member discharged under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. A panel of four officers reviewed the case for more than eight hours on Tuesday in a closed hearing at Hancock Air Base in Syracuse. Their decision asserts that Choi, a platoon leader with the 69th Infantry Regiment out of Manhattan, violated a federal statute that forbids homosexual soldiers from serving openly in the military. Choi, 28, of New York City, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 2003 and joined the 10th mountain Division at Fort Drum. He spent 15 months in Iraq as an Arabic interpreter and joined the Guard in June 2007.This spring, Choi came out as a gay man and helped found a West Point alumni group called Knights Out (West Point's mascot is the Black Knight) to advocate for equal rights among strait, homosexual and transgender troops. After Tuesday's hearing, he defended his military career. "I understand the Army values," Choi said. "A soldier must have integrity. I learned that from day one at West Point." "All I did was tell the truth," he said. "I refused to lie about my boyfriend. His name is Matthew, not Martha." If all agree with the board, the chief will decide the terms of Choi's discharge. That process could take weeks or years. Choi's defense counsel plans to appeal. "Don't ask, don't tell was built on assumptions," said Maj. Ray Diehl. "I don't know of anyone who's shown that being gay is a predictor of bad actions." Soldiers can be lazy, insubordinate or fail a drug test with less ramification, he said. Choi submitted some 260,000 signatures and letters of support to the Army board, including messages from generals, West Point alumni and members of the Guard. Choi's unit — one of the nation's oldest and most revered — has gained a new sort of notoriety since he came out. While the battalion finished urban warfare training in Kentucky last Sunday, Choi, who'd been excused, was grand marshaling the gay pride parade in San Francisco.

In the film he incorporated two early films, A Journey to Avebury a romantic landscape film, and The Magician (a.k.a. Tarot). The final sequences were shot on Fire Island in the following year. Fire Island survives as a separate film. In this period, Jarman had begun to express a mythology which he felt underpinned the film. He writes in Dancing Ledge of discovering “the key to the imagery that I had created quite unconsciously in the preceding months”, namely Jung’s Alchemical Studies and Seven Sermons to the Dead.  Above work of Coulthart connects in my mind with the Demonic Sex work of Sean Platter, I used on my poz page.
