notice : for everybody from our region (Zuid Holland) who has not heard yet: the Boss will be closed untill renovations are finished end of november. I wrote about him ealier and made a vid compilation of a VPRO program about him on the weblog march 4th. So sad that he was one of the early aids victims. I dearly miss his penetrating eyes, soft voice, and his incredible perfectly spoken Oxford English.You don't have to agree with all his reasoning; I personally have serious doubts about his mystic religious and ascetic points of view. Doubt is too soft a description; I squarely disagree ! And will never return to the womb of a religion that squarely states we homos are lesser creatures, and not part of their gods plan of our world. Louis Andriessen, Haags Hakkuh: and then some
got a bit of time ? do watch this concert of a guy I worked with and respect tremendously. The concert celebrates his 70est birthday; the 1st 30 minits is a composition of his father, the 2nd ½hour is a weird piece with the even weirder name for 2 piano's and orchestra that premiered last year in LA. The second hour starts with a video bio with themes like Vermeer, Mondriaan, Boogy Woogy, shipbuilding, Plato, Dante, socialism, anarchism, and then we finish with the concerto version of his opera 'Writing to Vermeer' At 2m21 is an interview with Beppie Blankert, with whom I made the set and light design for dubbelspoor, also with music played and composed by Louis, that we toured over 2 years all over the world which reprised last year in NL theaters. The 3rd hour ends with a piece by the young Andriessen and a Strawinsky finale. Sorry, speech is in Dutch, but you'll get the drift if you let the music carry you off .  With Beppie I ended up in a conflict where her strictness conflicted with my anti authoritarian upbringing and free associative creativity, where I could no longer make the distinction between virtuosity and straight jacket; between vibrant and hot air.  I was also (for fun) part of the vast nude extra's crew of Greenaways' prospero's books filmed at various locations in NL with Sir John Gielgud (acting nude at age 80), of which I vividly remember a super heated fuck session on the NS train back to Amsterdam, with Eduardo, later owner of legendary leatherbar Argos. comment? |

Local news 1st: Arie Boomsma, gorgeous masthead of Dutch religious fanatic broadcast company EO has decided to call it a day. This spring he was suspended, because he posed for a gay magazine (which put him on the cover too with the text: "and god created Arie"). He commented with remarks like: my god does not discriminate against homo's. After his suspension everything seemed to be hunky dory again until 2 months ago another program of his, in which he planned to confront stand-up and other known Dutch comedy artists with religion, got axed. His superiors were of course coming up with justifications like "you cannot make fun about god" For now, he had not made any statement but I guess he would like to say he sees no future in an environment where people end up on the stake for saying the earth is round and revolves around the sun. It's a miracle that they use electricity, produced on a sunday, to spread 'gods' word. Now that's what I would call blasfemy!

But I doubt I will live to see it realised. The trace you see on the image below has been decided on before WWII and has been laying bare ever since.
