It also portrays his friend the painter Patrick Angus, who died of aids in 1995.
I placed the image of the real Quentin and the real Patrick because young homos of today have never known how living-ghostly and frightening aids patients in their final stages looked, and we older generation have tried to get their image eradicated from our memory for too long. an end to tolerance for religious intolerants :
My wishes have come true. The Dutch said no to allowing discrimination of gay teachers, obsessive morals, raising the age of consent, effectively placing many homos in the corner of child molesters, keeping a blind eye to religious extremists and agression towards minorities on our nightly streets, blocking eutanasia and medical advances.
And the cristian hypocrits have nothing but themselves to blame: If you enter the morals of fucking in the campaign and the PM's main spindoctor and secretary of defence does just that with his hottest subordinate in Afghanistan, causing his wife and children to throw him out and go sleep-over at a barracks in den Haag, then an entire country knows how serious CDA takes family values.
Now getting a governement together to grab the economy bull by the horns will be hard and will most likely include a 4 party coalition, of wich 3 are quite sympathetic to me (the ones led by Femke, Job and Alexander) but the 4th and overall winning party may be homo friendly, but also was prominent in all the failed banks, wants to keep handing out bonusses and wants to maintain mortgage tax reduction for the already super-rich.
And even though he was witness at the wedding of the former dwh chairman in Delft, I still don't feel at ease with Mark as new prime minister (yet) :
there is another option for Mark: a coalition over right, together with Wilders, but a new party may prove to be an insecure gamble, besides that, the Christians are not likely to continue governement responsibility. it is a complete mystery to me why on election night dwh plays a movie that lasts 2 and a half hours! It's not a bad movie, especially to me, long declared sucker for baroque costume drama, queer history of the 19th century and waltzes.
But why then not play André Rieu on tour with the entire Austrian royal Court? That way there would be some time left for election results.
On the other hand, the story is quite significant: The main character, who dedicated his entire life to unwavering support of his emperor, in the end is portrayed as a traitor.

04-06-2010 local issues: Why is the dwh slipping, and slipping and slipping?
Because they put all their stakes on just one horse: the section of their user group that they cannot rely upon: students are notoriously fickle, and nowadays they have to study. So they have no time to invest in queer culture. The lack of queer content has become a painful issue: alcohol nowadays is the only thing dwh offers, while due to content this weblog draws 5 times the traffic the dwh site does (their printed mag included). So here's another entry made an hour ago, to overturn despair and get our hopes up for the future: the presention of the design for Hall C, new premises of former DWH chairman Frank's DNA (new academy) and also the future location of a revived Wasdag.
DWH members will only be allowed in if they sign an online form, promissing they will not discriminate on race, age and sexuality!
Close to the night train, it will bring back wasdag once a year to the province of South Holland to show we have something to offer that Amsterdam also sadly misses nowadays. And the amazing thing is: although the plan is presented today, it is a work in progress, already open and running while it progresses and adapts to the knowledge of today and tomorrow and accomodates eternal changes and renewal.

In memoriam dedicated to one of the coolest places we ever had in NL
On my way back with ears still buzzing from the IML farewell danceparty at Excalibur, so I resort to an issue I half prepared earlier:
Sadly the Vag is gone forever, gone to waste, due to its spineless last board that lost the old spirit, and just gave up the fight against ignorance and bigotry. Last nights were a superb inspiration to never let that happen, as long as there is a hart pumping, one last braincell working, a mouth to open, fingers to move across a keyboard! That is what an overflow of speeches and emotion which is IML left me with (along with an overload of sex, drugs and rock & roll).
Some may think the spinelessness is a harsh judgement, but I'm not saying it lightly, not without pain. I was involved with the place, making video for many years; friend and even lover of many of the team members. I've done many a queer community project since 1975, and sure, I've discontinued many much loved projects myself; sometimes finding a new generation of rightly inspired volunteers and governors isn't that easy. Here at IML I'm witnessing the pain of carrying on a project into a new era. It's never smooth sailing! But here too I experience the enormous value of respect for the pioneers and finding ways for keeping them on the pedestal they deserve.
It's pathetic, if an organisation just throws in the towel, giving in to authorities and external intolerance without keeping communication to their user base open. In fact, this blog is a way to carry strong values and ideas through adversity:

Close to the night train, it will bring back wasdag once a year to the province of South Holland to show we have something to offer that Amsterdam also sadly misses nowadays. And the amazing thing is: although the plan is presented today, it is a work in progress, already open and running while it progresses and adapts to the knowledge of today and tomorrow and accomodates eternal changes and renewal.
